Head lice occur in all schools and can happen to anyone. We ask that you remind your children to not share hairbrushes, hats, toques, or hoodies, and to try their best to avoid head-to-head contact with other students.

Below is some helpful information about lice, how it spreads, and what to do if your child(ren) has lice:

What are lice, how does it spread?
Head lice are small insects that live on human heads. Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another individual who has head lice or by sharing items like hats and brushes with someone who has head lice. Head lice crawl; they cannot jump or fly. Head lice do not carry disease and are not a health hazard. They are very common and are not a reflection of poor hygiene.

What do you do if your child has lice?
 Students who have head lice do not need to be sent home. It is important to avoid sharing hats or toques and no head-to-head contact with others. A student with an active infestation probably has had head lice for a while.
